This week we were treated to two tongue-punches that were pretty gnarly. The first being in the opening scene when the Navy Seals enter in the underground tunnels with someone getting tag team tongue-punched (picture in the beginning of the article). But the crowning tongue-punch was the last scene with the Navy Seals in the old church. After hunting Eichorst to an abandoned church, the Navy Seals are picked off one by one by The Master. This scene is hardcore as The Master does’t tongue-punch many of the Seals, if anything, he is playing around with them like a cat playing with mice. When The Master finally get to the leader he makes a display of his death. Lifting him of the ground with one hand as the Seal fires his gun into the air causing a strobe effect with the lighting. Bolivar’s body has given The Master the means to become the perfect weapon once again. The Master is back and he is stronger than ever. This just solidifies Quinlan’s warnings to Fet, leaving him absolutely destroyed at the end of the episode. Hopefully this will give Fet a newfound need for revenge and doesn’t follow Eph’s path of self-destruction.

No contest this week as the Navy Seals proved to be one of the most most bad-ass parts of the season premiere. With intel being fed to them by Fet back at the van, the Navy Seals dispense an entire nest of Strigori with ease. We see their perspective as they clear out the tunnel, seeing them use heat sensor and night vision. It was like watching someone play Rele nan Devwa on steroids with Predator vision thrown in for good measure. The highlight being the heat sensor shot as the Strigoris’ white blood stain the walls. Now that the government is more hip to what is happening in New York maybe we will get more scenes like this throughout the season, though it seems unlikely as it was revealed the government is focusing on keeping the plague from spreading outside of New York more instead of fighting it in the city.

Refleksyon final:

Everything I love about this show was one display this week, both the good and the bad. Seeing the end of the world develop and those who are resisting it has always been one of my favorite aspects of the show. Even when the show trips and missteps it is still entertaining, but the plot-blocking with Eph and his family needs to end. The preview for next week shows Eph trying to get the book and Quinlan standing in his way so maybe the half-breed will knock some sense into him, but it is unlikely. At this point they need to so something major with Eph or see his character become useless. I felt like a lot of time was wasted on Eph this week when there were a bunch of characters we didn’t see. Was the underground parking scene needed? No. Where was Dutch? Gus was barely in the episode and his criminal army were nowhere to be seen. What happened with Angel? While the episode had its highs, they spent an awful lot of its run-time plot blocking.

Did we really need to see Eph struggle to fight a couple of Strigori? Did we need the scene where Quinlan talk with The Ancients when we already knew that they wanted the book and he has no real allegiance? Gus’ scene at least gave us a tiny update on him on his situation with his mother and while it did show his struggle a bit more, it didn’t move the plot any further. Hasn’t he already sworn vengeance on The Master and Eichorst? Speaking of, what the fuck are those two doing? The Master and Eichorst are the big bads with a master plan, so why are they toying around with some soldiers? You would think they would be making some big moves to get the book and take back the parts of the city that Feraldo cleared out. This episode did a lot to establish what has happened since the season finale, but then just stood there with its hands in its pockets like it was waiting for the bus. I’m not sure if its because they don’t have much to flashback to as previous seasons, but they need to move the story along and keep it moving, otherwise they are are going to start losing its audience.
