Jan mèch 2 extended the world that was crafted in the first film and upped the ante with more action. Now, it sounds like the assassin oeuvre is expanding with plans for a TV show.

Kòm rapòte pa IndieWire, Chad Stahelski and his screenwriting partner Derek Kolstad are developing the prequel series with Lionsgate. The series will take the title Kontinantal la, focusing on the assassin hub that was featured so prominently in Jan mèch 2.

“They’ve got a really good structure,” Stahelski said. “It’s very tied to the film [in that] it’s about the Continentals all over the world, how certain people come into that world, and what happens in relation to those people, which is cool. I think the world is very vast, and everything I’ve heard from it is very positive. […] It’s something that studio seems very, very intent on [making] and very, very behind.”

Lionsgate – the same studio behind the Jan mèch films – seems very supportive of the project. Due to their involvement in the film, and with big action sequences appearing more often in TV (like the epic Batay nan bastard yo episode from Jwèt la fotèy), I’m hopeful that they won’t cut back on the intense and bloody fight sequences that we know and love.

The Continental seems like the perfect place to set the series. With a revolving door of guests and a strong cast of staff, there’s a lot that can be done here.

“I like telling stories from my one character’s perspective,” Stahelski said. “Once you put that aside with the TV show, [you can] expand to all the different characters and follow them throughout their journey. You can be with the consigliere, concierge, the sommelier — you can be with all these different characters and walk through the world in different aspects; ones that I’m a little limited [from exploring] by staying with my lead guy.”

Because of The Continental’s strict no “business” on hotel grounds policy, Wick’s presence in The Continental will be restricted for Jan mèch 3. But with the series set as a prequel, it opens up the option to have Keanu Reeves join on as a guest star.

“I think [Reeves] would make an appearance,” Stahelski said. “I think that’s part of his thing, [but the series] isn’t centered around John Wick.”

Lionsgate has not officially confirmed Reeves’ involvement at this time. That being said, with his commitment to the character, I’d be surprised if we don’t see John Wick swing by for a visit.
